One Thing is Certain, Change Will Happen

January 20, 2025

Change is one thing that you can definitely expect to happen.  January 20, 2025 is another one with President Trump 2.0.  I thought it would be a good idea to review some of the broader themes to expect with the change in Administration.

  • Regulatory Environment: President Trump is likely to focus on deregulation, aiming to reduce the regulatory burden on businesses. This could involve rolling back regulations introduced during the Biden administration and reinstating some of his previous policies..
  • Trade Policies: Executive orders related to trade, such as imposing tariffs or renegotiating trade agreements, could affect businesses involved in international trade. These actions might aim to protect American industries but could also lead to increased costs for companies relying on imported goods.
  • Immigration: Changes in immigration policies, including restrictions on visas, could impact businesses that rely on foreign talent. This is particularly relevant for sectors like technology and agriculture, which often depend on skilled and seasonal workers from abroad.
  • Environmental Regulations: President Trump is expected to roll back environmental regulations to reduce costs for businesses, especially in the energy sector. While this may benefit certain industries, it could also raise concerns about long-term environmental impacts.
  • Government Contracting: Policies to increase Buy American requirements and prohibit outsourcing jobs overseas for companies doing business with the federal government are likely to be reinstated. This could boost domestic manufacturing but pose challenges for businesses with global supply chains.

These expected executive orders reflect President Trump’s broader policy goals of deregulation, protectionism, and prioritizing American jobs and industries. The impacts on businesses will vary, with some benefiting from reduced regulations and others facing increased costs and operational challenges.
